A Warm Welcome to Ilonka’s Kekri Celebration – a Festival of the Summer and Autumn Harvest and Local Food!
At the Kekri celebration, ancient traditions meet the present day. Kekri is an old Finnish harvest festival marking the end of the growing season. It is a time to remember departed loved ones and ancestors while also turning our thoughts toward the future.
At Ilonka’s Kekri, we gather around the fire for drumming, create things with our hands, experience a sense of connection, and enjoy delicious homemade treats prepared from the season’s harvest.
At Ilonka, the harvest comes from the forest. In the Kota Café, you can celebrate Kekri with mushroom soup, berry pies, chaga and spruce sprig tea, and many other wonderful homemade delicacies. Products for sale include home-dried chanterelles and other forest treasures, handicrafts, and ecological products.
Crafting, learning, and slowing down at the Kekri celebration:
– At the Wool Corner, Lilli will explain how wool is obtained from sheep and demonstrate how carded wool is spun into yarn. You’ll even have the chance to try carding wool yourself!
– At the craft stations, you can make beeswax candles, felt decorations, and more.
– Ever wondered how pine cones can be turned into excellent fire starters? Come and see, and take a few home with you!
– Looking for a moment of peace and grounding? Join a nature yoga session on Saturday, September 12 at 1:00 PM or a guided sound journey meditation at 2:00 PM. (Please note: the guided nature yoga and sound journey meditation will take place only on Saturday, September 12.)
In addition to all the other activities, you can explore our mystical nature trail where stories and small tasks help foster a deeper connection with nature and yourself. You will also have the chance to meet and greet dogs, sheep, and goats.
Ilonka’s Kekri will be celebrated on National Local Food Day on Saturday, September 12, from 12:00 to 16:00 and on Wednesday, September 16, from 13:00 to 17:00.
